M-Phazes working on Kimbra debut

Kimbra is the vocalist you've been hearing on the latest Miami Horror single 'I Look To You'.
Born in New Zealand, she's now based in Melbourne where she's working on her debut album with a couple of loved local producers. One of them is hip hop maestro M-Phazes who told triple j's Zan Rowe that Kimbra is "an incredible talent" set to deliver an "amazing" debut.
"It's quite jazz influenced but her album's a huge melting pot of all types of different things. She's an amazing writer. There are slow ballads on there, there's a duet, there are folky sort of tracks, there's a Nina Simone cover which is incredible. The album's sounding amazing. There are a few things we have to work on but it's very close to being done."
Kimbra first worked with producer Francois Tetaz (Gotye, Bertie Blackman) then took the tracks to M-Phazes for some tweaking.
"I guess they just wanted me to add that sort of hip hop low end, that bass sound, and put my twist on things. I'm a huge fan of Franc's production and I look up to him as a producer. It was incredible just being able to work with his sounds. I guess it was almost a lesson for me to hear how he works."
Kimbra has already released her debut single 'Settle Down'. She'll be touring with Little Red through October. Get the dates at our gig guide.
